Think you know the difference between an optician and an optometrist? Though similar in name, their jobs are very different in nature. We’ve written up some basic profiles of each to help you tell the difference!
An Optometrist is a healthcare professional concerned with the eyes, vision/visual systems, and related biological structures. The optometrist is who checks your visual acuity and eye health during an eye exam. They are trained to diagnose and treat eye diseases and prescribe corrective lenses and medications. This is who you’ll see when you come in for your eye exam!
An Optician is a technical practitioner who designs, fits, and dispenses corrective lenses (your glasses!). An optician is not a doctor, but is responsible for the accuracy of the lenses prescribed by your Optometrist. An optician is also responsible for fitting your chosen frames to your face, as well as dispensing contact lenses to customers. This is who you’ll see when you come to pick up your glasses or contacts!
