Why Poly-carbonate Lenses Might Be For You

If you’ve read our past blogs you’ll know that there are many different types of lenses, but did you know that you even have material options? By default most lenses are made of a standard optical plastic, but have you ever tried poly-carbonate?

Poly-carbonate lenses are a hardened lens type designed to be impact and scratch resistant. These lenses are typically used in safety-frames, but we’ve got a few other ideas for these super-strong lenses.

  • Children’s Glasses – Kids often have a very busy schedule of exploration, napping, and playtime, during which it can be easy to damage a first pair of glasses. Putting a hardened lens in your child’s frame is not only going to keep them seeing clearly for longer, but help you reduce the amount of times you have those scratched lenses replaced as well. Don’t be afraid to upgrade your teens lenses as well! They may need it more than any of us.
  • Sports Goggles – This one is a no-brainer! If you’re wearing glasses or goggles in any kind of high-contact sport, poly-carbonate glasses are the way to go. You’re doing more than just protecting your lenses, you’re protecting your eyes and vision as a whole!
  • Semi-Rimless Frames – A semi-rimless frame is any frame with an open bottom or sides. Exposing your lenses may make them more susceptible to chipping around the edges; poly-carbonate lenses will make your lenses stronger, meaning you can wear more style options and not have to stress about losing a lens.
